Information Services Company Cuts Time to Market with Software Testing

The client is a $13 billion global company engaged in providing information to businesses and professionals. Its lines of service include financial analytics, legal education, governance risk and compliance, news services, and pharma and life sciences information. Information is delivered to customers using printed materials, online web access, or via software installed on user desktops.

Software products were constantly being upgraded to fill evolving customer needs. Before releasing new versions of these products, the client follows a strict quality assurance process. Rigorous quality software testing was needed to ensure that software defects were quickly identified and fixed. Software products had to run in most customer environments – Windows and Mac desktops, several web browsers, Unix and Novell servers, among others – and testing all the different conditions was taking a long time with the Client’s limited resources.

The Client engaged SVI to test its software products and report defects. SVI deployed dozens of testers to work in three shifts to meet demanding deadlines. SilkTest automation tool was used to execute regression testing.

As a result, more applications were tested ahead of time, defects decreased, and the cost was reasonable. SVI testing was done offshore, hence no additional facilities were needed at the Client site. Testing time was cut in half. Software products were released to the market more quickly.
